As avid trail runners, we are a big fan of Salomon, in particular the Speedcross. It is a great shoe but that’s not to discount the other Salomon trail running shoes which are constantly reviewed and updated by the brand. Let’s take a look at Salomon’s latest 2023 updates to three of their popular shoes along with a new addition to their trail shoe range.
Ultra Glide 2
In the latest version of the Salomon Ultra Glide 2, you can expect a new lightweight upper, increased breathability, a glued insole and thinner collar and tongue.
This comfortable and grippy trail running shoe from Salomon is designed for the long distance runner to cope with even the more rugged terrain. This is thanks to the Energy Foam which is designed to deliver long-lasting cushioning and outstanding bouncy energy return.
The update of the glued insole now prevents it from slipping when running up or down hill with the other updates designed to provide an even more superior ride.
Currently retailing at £125.99 on popular sites like Sportsshoes.com.
Sense Ride 5
The Salomon Sense Ride 5 is the second of the thee Salomon Trail running shoes to get an update and this time features a softer midsole, improved overall fit and increased durability on the outsole. This particular shoe is billed as the versatile trail shoe that does it all.
The model has been reworked with a lightweight, flexible and durable engineered mesh upper for a comfortable running experience. Move freely over the trails in comfort with the durability to tackle the toughest trails. You can expect reduced fatigue while running thanks to the high energy transfer from the improved midsole.
The All-Terrain Contragrip outsole means you can run comfortably and with confidence on a wide range of surfaces whether it be wet, dry, hard or loose terrain. The deep lugs will help you to tackle wet and muddy ground giving you a secure plant while also providing you with the bounce to push off again.
Pulsar Trail Pro 2
The updated Pulsar Trail Pro 2 has been updated to feature a lightweight, breathable upper which is made of engineered mesh. Expect a nimble, quick shoe which is packed with Salomon’s innovative tech designed to propel you forwards while keeping your transitions over different terrains smooth, even over the longest of runs. The Energy Blade which is built into the midsole will give you added propulsion, driving you forward while Salomon’s Energy Foam will give you that extra pop and response. The shoe features an anti-debris collar which will keep out that annoying loose rubble that otherwise might find its way in on the trails.
The advanced version of the welded mesh upper is almost weightless allowing you to move quickly over the trails. The shoe is designed to fit like a glove on your foot with an EVA sock liner with stitch-free construction which reduces the risk of chafing and irritation. With Quicklace for one pull tightening, you can quickly get these shoes on and off.
Salomon’s lightest ever midsole means you won’t get weighed down on your run while it’s Contragrip MA outsole gives you grip over a variety of surfaces.
And the new model…
The All-New Glide Max Trail Running Shoes
A higher stack height and Energy Foam, velvety smooth cushioning! That’s what you can expect from the all new Glide Max Trail Running Shoes from Salmon. Billed as ideal for the distance trail runner who likes the cushioned landing, these shoes have been designed with a light-weight engineered mesh upper for long term comfort and breathability. Of course, while this makes them great for long distances, they are designed for mixed terrain. You’ll want to wear these 2-3 times per week according to the Salomon rating.
Expect these to come out as a mid width shoe – not for those with very thin feet or on the other end of the spectrum, not a trail running shoe for wide feet. Available in 4 colours for men and 2 for women, you can expect to pay in the region of £150 from the Salomon website.
